Reja – The Cloud

Reja – The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013

Detailed Information

Reja – The Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013 is designed by multi award-winning Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto. The Pavilion is a delicate, three-dimensional structure; each unit comprises fine steel bars of 800 and 400 mm rectangles. It forms a semi-transparent, irregular canopy, simultaneously protecting visitors from the elements while allowing them to remain part of the landscape. The footprint of the structure is 350 square-metres and the Pavilion has two entrances. A series of stepped terraces provide seating areas that allow the Pavilion to be used as a flexible, multi-purpose social space.

The delicate quality of the structure, enhanced by its semi-transparency, creates a geometric, cloud-like form, as if it were mist rising from the undulations of the park.

Note from the Project Director

Edit Pula

Reja will be a public space by day and a forum for live and special events curated in collaboration with local and international partners, including the “Nights in the Cloud”, “Cine in the Cloud”, “EDU in the Cloud”, “Family in the Cloud”.
The realization of “REJA” the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013 in Tirana has only been made possible thanks to the support of the Mayor of Tirana and enormously generous contribution of individuals, companies and foundations that have pledged sponsorship, or sponsorship help-in-kind to the project.
